Habia

The ‘Standard Setting Body’ for the Hair and Beauty industry

Habia is recognised by government as the Standard Setting Body (SSB) for the hair, beauty, nails,  spa and aesthetic sectors. For more than thirty years  we have been developing national standards that form the basis of qualifications across the UK.

The Habia logo is a long-established, well-recognised sign of high quality standards, excellence and professionalism.

We work closely with Expert Working Groups (EWG) comprised of sector specialists  to  develop National Occupational Standard (NOS) that are then used as the basis of qualifications.

Recent developments include the Advanced Aesthetic Standards

Our 4 Strategic Pillars

Our four strategic pillars are –

  • Standards,
  • Education,
  • Excellence, and
  • Careers.

We work with organisations, agencies, educators employers and experts to:

– develop national occupation standards (NOS)

– champion high-quality education

– recognise and endorse excellence

– promote careers in the hair and beauty sector.

What are National Occupational Standards (NOS)?

NOS specify UK Standards of performance that people are expected to achieve in their work, and the knowledge and skills they need to perform effectively.

NOS are developed by Standard Setting organisations who consult with employers and stakeholders across each of the UK nations, the result is a set of NOS that are suitable for use across the UK. The NOS are approved on a four-nation basis. They are developed as individual measures of competence but they are grouped in Suites.
